I’ve never really had a tradition for Canada Day. I’m proud to be Canadian, I’m proud of my country and its history, but so often in my life, things have prevented me from celebrating on a specific day. I used to work a fly-in/fly-out job in which I was out of town for a week at a time and then home for a week. Sometimes I was home to celebrate holidays, birthdays and special events and sometimes I wasn’t and the event had to be moved if I wanted to take part. Even growin
I received a custom order this week so,sadly, the bunny and bear hats have to be put on hold for a little bit. Although one of the hats in the custom order is a bear hat. The request was for a dark brown bear hat (although I might also make a puppy hat and see if she likes it better) for a 12 month old and a flower hat for a 2.5 year old. The flower hat is in pink and purple, my favourites, and I was given artistic license for the shades. I have started on the flower hat but
Many of you know that I recently started a new job. It feels like there have been a lot of beginnings around that time, including the beginning of this business. The reason I took this job is because it sounded like a challenge with a great group of people. And that is exactly what it has become. I know it is early but it takes me time so I started early. Plus, I am one of those horrible people that has already started their Christmas shopping.
I try to keep my blogs positive. My intention is not to offend and so I try putting a positive spin on anything. I find that helpful in my life anyway. But today I’m going to get a bit more serious. The other night, I was talking to someone who is considering starting a family in the next few years. She is not experienced with pregnancy or children so she had a lot of questions that I was happy to answer and discuss. In my mind, I gave her one really powerful and import
I’ve mentioned before that I’m an engineer. Engineering is traditionally male dominated because it is a part of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). I’m actually a mine engineer and if you thought engineering was male dominated, well mining is incredibly male dominated. It used to be unlucky to have a woman in an underground mine, similar to having a woman on a ship (but actually more recent even). Like many women in male dominated industries, I originally jus
