Keto Week 4

This update has been delayed compared to what I had intended but life has been busier than I had anticipated. I’ll save that update for another time. For now, let’s focus on Keto. In 3 weeks, I have lost 14 lbs. Which I am happy with. The other impact of note is my hormones going crazy. I had heard that this was a possible side effect because Keto somehow heals hormones – I have not done much research on this and the research I have done has some contradictory information. Most of my research is done on the internet so it has the potential to be flawed. I had not anticipated having issues with hormones because I take oral contraceptive. I, incorrectly, assumed that any potential changes to my hormones from this diet would be managed by the hormones I take. The other thing that I have heard is that once your hormones have calmed down, there is generally a large drop in weight. A large portion of it is likely from retained water but I will take anything I can get.

The second and third week have been quite a bit easier than the first. I am enjoying the food I am eating. Our barbeque has been well utilized which helps to add flavor, as does the full fat ingredients. I have shied away from artificial sweetener because I really notice an odd aftertaste. And I have created a fat bomb recipe that I love – full fat cream cheese, natural peanut butter, chopped peanuts and the lowest net carb dark chocolate you can find. It has helped to curb some of the chocolate cravings I have been getting because of my hormones changing. I have had cravings for two other things – bacon and pickles. I think the pickles were because I was low in sodium but for a few days, I just couldn’t get enough.

I am also not sure exactly where the weight is coming off. I have seen a lot of people who are able to see it in their face at this point but I haven’t so I am guessing there is a little bit coming from a lot of places. Either way, better off than on.

I haven’t seen a huge increase in my energy or the mental clarity that some people observe. It might be early yet to see these benefits though as life and my hormones have made me tired.

I really wanted to try pizza so today at lunch I made fat-head pizza dough. It is mainly made up of cheese and almond flour. It was actually really good although the texture was a bit odd. I added some tomato sauce, sauteed mushrooms and cut up pepperoni. I had to broil it a little at the end but overall, it turned out really well.
