I wanted to share a piece of my day because it reminded me of how lucky I am. I have had obstacles to overcome in life, some of them happening right now. But I have made a point to take time to count my blessings when I am feeling down. And sometimes when I am not feeling down. Sometimes, I forget to do this and then something happens to help me remember to do it. Today was one of those days.
I got up this morning at 4am to catch the bus to work on a Sunday. I am also sick with a cold so it was a rough wake up. Once I got to work and the sun slowly started to rise, I was able to see a gorgeous sunrise. It reminded me of how beautiful it is here. Then, I found out that there was a pack of wolves close by so I went with a few of my coworkers to see if we could see them as well. Since it is the weekend, it is quiet with very few people in the office but thankfully, the ones that are in the office with me are keen to go on adventures. So we went out and drove around, off-roading. We managed to not get stuck although we did have a few close calls. Plus, we saw five wolves. I have never seen wolves on site although I knew they were around because I’ve seen the tracks. It was funny to see these ones because they had a fairly fresh kill that the ravens were trying to get to.
Later, we went into the pit and saw the mama grizzly bear with her two cubs on one of my newly reclaimed slopes, eating all of the new growth. They have pretty much taken up residence there and have been there most days since the area was seeded. Mama was lying down, having a bit of a chill time while her cubs were busy snacking and getting fat for the winter. I am amazed at how much I have seen them grow since I’ve come on site. This is their first year so they will likely be hanging out with mama next year too. I am looking forward to seeing how they look in the spring and next fall when they are getting chunky again. Right now they look like cute little teddy bears.
On the way back to the office, we saw a buck with a pretty impressive rack scratching on trees. I guess they do that in the fall, during mating season. About a half hour later, from the office window, I saw three deer (no horns) hanging out in the bushes.
I am away from my family right now and that is hard but seeing a beautiful sunrise and seeing how the sun hits the snow on the mountains plus all of the wildlife reminds me how beautiful this world is. It reminds me that I am lucky to be able to see it, how much it means to me and how it lifts my spirits, even when they are already high.
